Dr Lucy Watkin

Dr Watkin is pleased to present the first on island private adult ADHD assessment service working as an independent psychiatry Consultant with Island Health.

Dr Watkin is a local Consultant Psychiatrist dual-trained in General Adult and Old Age Psychiatry with over 18 years’ consultant-level experience.  She has specific expertise in adult ADHD assessment and treatment.  Locally educated (Amherst and Ladies College) , she completed her medical degree at University College London Medical School in 1998 with an intercalated additional degree in Tumour Biology.

Dr Watkin has worked across a wide range of mental health services in both central London teaching hospitals and Guernsey. Her experience spans acute inpatient care, community mental health teams, liaison psychiatry, memory services and high-volume outpatient settings. This breadth of practice enables her to assess complex presentations, differentiate ADHD from other mental health or physical health conditions, and provide clear, evidence-based recommendations.

She was also Chair for her London Trust’s consultant committee, has peer review research and has published numerous non-research articles in Psychiatric Journal.  She has a strong educational background, having been a support tutor to London medical students, clinical and educational supervisor to psychiatric trainees and was the Higher Trainee Training Programme Director for the North Central London Sector.

Delighted to return to Guernsey in 2018 with her family, Dr Watkin worked at the Oberlands Centre in Guernsey 2018-2023 as Consultant Psychiatrist for the Older Adult Service. She held clinical responsibility for acute and long-stay wards, the community mental health team, the memory pathway and Alderney clinics.

Over the last 5 years, Dr Watkin has become increasingly interested in neurodevelopmental conditions and has completed around 1,000 adult ADHD assessments for the NHS, as well as annual reviews and complex follow-ups. She is experienced in working with individuals who may have longstanding functional difficulties, co-existing mental health conditions or uncertainty about whether ADHD may be contributing to their challenges.

Her assessments are structured, thorough and aligned with current clinical standards, with an emphasis on helping patients understand both their strengths and the areas causing difficulty.

Dr Watkin is known for her kind, thorough and approachable manner. She values clear communication with patients, families and referrers, ensuring that each assessment is collaborative and supportive. Her clinical style combines attention to detail with a practical, patient-centred outlook, helping adults navigate diagnosis, treatment options and long-term strategies for wellbeing.
